Take action against Bill 5!

Bill 5, the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, is now law and gives the Ontario government unchecked powers to evict nature and Indigenous rights from law.

Among other sweeping changes (including the repeal of the Endangered Species Act), Bill 5 allows Ontario to designate 'Special Economic Zones' (SEZs) where any laws - including those safeguarding environmental, Indigenous, and worker's rights - would simply not apply.

Ontario wants a SEZ for the region where the Ring of Fire mining project is proposed, in the Hudson-James Bay Lowlands in Treaty 9 territory.

As a refuge for wildlife, an immense carbon sink, and the homelands of the Omushkego people who have relied on it since time immemorial, a SEZ in this region poses a profound and irreversible threat to our future.
